Here’s a quick one for your Sunday evening!

I have always had a lot of trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep.

Now, this is definitely not your ‘cure all’ remedy for insomnia, but it certainly is packed full of medicinal benefits and it tastes incredible!!

I have to admit, that as a rule, I never measure anything!! I’m terrible for it.
People ask me for a recipe and I can tell them exactly what’s in it, but i could not give the correct amounts as I am one of those that makes to taste not to a recipe!
However!
I did have a play around and I can give you a pretty close rendition of what I make myself!

If you follow my facebook page, you have probably seen this one already and I do apologe for being repeditive, but I have been asked for a bedtime hot beverage that isn’t tea, and this recipe may be slightly different as I have been playing with it.

Ready??

Sleepy Time Hot Cocoa:

Serves 1 (double recipe for 2 people etc)

250ml Milk of your choice (absolutely any milk will work for this!)
1 Tablespoon Cocoa powder (again, whichever one you choose, I personally use organic)
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1 Pinch Ground Turmeric
1 Pinch Ground Black Pepper
1 Tablespoon Local Honey

Now, put everything into a saucepan and heat up over a low heat until it’s hot and just starting to bubble, but not boil!

Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!

I usually make this about an hour before I intend to go to sleep.

Fun facts about the ingredients:

Cinnamon– anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial properties, anti-viral and anti-fungal!! Supports gut health, may help to manage blood pressure, lowers blood sugars AND helps induce sleep! Plus it tastes amazing!!!
Nutmeg– has the ability to ease pain, soothes indigestion, detoxifies the body, increase immune system function, improve blood circulation AND reduces insomnia!!

Turmeric– anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, improve the symptoms of depression and anxiety, helps control diabetes, improves skin health, improves digestion, helps wound healing, boosts the immune system!

Black Pepper– helps activate the turmeric, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, improve blood sugar levels, helps relieve cold symptoms, helps fight depression.

Honey– (ALWAYS use local if and when you can!), great alternative to sugar! Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, helps ease a sore throat and the symptoms of a cold, wound healing, and, well, it tastes AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!




As you can see, when you look at the ingredients, this Sleepy Time Hot Cocoa packs a lot of punch!
Obviously, it’s not just for helping with sleep, it’s a yummy beverage that you can use in your daily routine, with a mass of health benefits!!
It’s pretty awesome!!
